Latest Updates on Clashes in Syria’s Al-Suwayda Province
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al-Nashra, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has reported that 940 people have been killed in recent clashes and incidents in Al-Suwayda province amid violations of the ceasefire as security forces entered the region.
The association stated that the ceasefire agreement brokered under international supervision was breached when fighting resumed between armed tribal groups and Druze fighters in western neighborhoods of Al-Suwayda city.
These clashes occurred as public security forces affiliated with Syria’s Ministry of Interior began deploying around Al-Suwayda city to implement the ceasefire.
A key provision of this agreement involves stationing public security checkpoints outside Al-Suwayda’s administrative borders to prevent armed groups from infiltrating into the province.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights quoted its sources reporting that over a seven-day period, 940 people were killed in these clashes, most of whom were civilians. The fatalities resulted from fighting, summary executions, and israeli airstrikes.
The observatory further noted ongoing fighting in Al-Suwayda with armed groups advancing toward residential areas.
It highlighted ceasefire violations by militant groups entering from outside Al-Suwayda who launched consecutive attacks from multiple directions toward the city. These actions reportedly have been supported by Jolani-affiliated security forces facilitating their movement.
Heavy fighting continues across neighborhoods including Thawra, Masakin, and areas west and north of the city. Local groups are actively resisting attacks to prevent advances by these militants amid intense battles.
The situation has caused severe concern among residents due to chaos, retaliatory acts, and widespread killings.
Rami Abdulrahman, head of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, confirmed documented crimes committed by Jolani-linked factions-including an incident where three young men were forced on camera to throw themselves off a balcony.
