Lavrov Alleges NATO Militarizing Arctic, Threatening Russian Security

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has asserted that the military activities of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) are creating a threat to Russia’s security. Lavrov indicated that NATO’s military engagement in the Arctic region is increasing the risk of incidents that could lead to armed confrontations. He posited that NATO is aiming to transform the Arctic into a new frontier for the containment of Russia and its allies.

The Russian Foreign Minister further highlighted that NATO is actively engaged in the militarization of the Arctic, establishing centers of international tension within the region. He noted that the military alliance is conducting extensive military exercises in close proximity to Russia’s northern borders.

Lavrov also commented on the current state of the Arctic Council, describing it as facing a serious crisis and being in a state of paralysis due to the actions of Western nations. He conveyed Moscow’s readiness to resume the full operational activities of the Arctic Council, provided that its other members consider the interests of all participants. Additionally, Lavrov stated that the West is attempting to undermine Russia’s rights in international cooperation through illegitimate sanctions, while Russia’s objective in the Arctic remains the preservation of peace and stability and the reduction of threats to its national security.
