Tsunami Warning Issued After Powerful Earthquakes Strike Russia
The English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al Jazeera, reported that after multiple strong earthquakes struck Russia’s pacific coast and the Kamchatka region in the east, a tsunami warning was issued for certain areas of Russia.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) stated that this series of earthquakes included a 7.4-magnitude quake near Russia’s eastern Pacific coast, followed by two others measuring 6.7 and 5.0 magnitude.The epicenter was located approximately 144 kilometers east of petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, a city with more than 160,000 residents.
According to USGS, these three quakes occurred within 32 minutes of each other. so far, there are no reports of casualties or injuries.
The U.S. National Tsunami Warning Center has issued a tsunami alert for parts of Russia. A separate tsunami warning previously issued for Hawaii was lifted shortly afterward.
