Oliyanov: European Troika Has No Right to Activate the Snapback Mechanism
According to the English section of webangah news Agency, citing Mehr News Agency, Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia’s permanent representative to international organizations based in Vienna, reiterated on Monday via a repost of Abbas Araghchi’s message on X that the European Troika-comprising the UK, France, and Germany-has neither legal nor ethical grounds to trigger the so-called snapback mechanism aimed at reinstating previous sanctions against Iran.
Meanwhile, Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister, emphasized in a message posted on X that he sent a letter addressed to UN Secretary-General António Guterres, the UN security Council president, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, and members of the UN Security Council. In this letter, he outlined why these three European countries lack any legal, political or moral standing to invoke JCPOA mechanisms or UNSC Resolution 2231 (the resolution endorsing the 2015 nuclear agreement).
