US Sanctions on Iran May Prove Ineffective, Cites Atlantic Report
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the American publication ‘The Atlantic’ has published a report titled “Why Trump Wants Economic Sanctions Against Iran,” stating that U.S. President Donald Trump has been unable to end the conflict with Iran for months. An extensive bombing campaign has lost its effectiveness, and U.S. ammunition stockpiles are diminishing.
The Atlantic reported that the diplomatic process is also slow, as Iranian leaders continue to deliberately prolong the process and strengthen their control over the Strait of Hormuz. Even the current, highly fragile and volatile ceasefire has not significantly reduced energy costs worldwide.
The American media outlet added that with few options remaining, the Trump administration has resorted to a potentially long-term campaign of economic pressure, vowing to pressure Iran until its leaders have no choice but to seriously return to negotiations.
The Atlantic wrote that this approach may practically lack the necessary impact if the U.S. does not also penalize countries that continue to trade with Iran and help its economy survive.
The English-language publication wrote that Trump has shown little inclination in the past to confront countries like China and Russia, or even North Korea, which has a strategic alliance with Tehran.
