Ukraine’s Largest Wartime Protests Against Controversial Law + Video

Ukrainian citizens staged the largest protest during ‌the ongoing war to oppose a law that undermines the independence of two anti-corruption bodies⁢ in the country.

According‌ to the English section of ‍ webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News ⁢Agency and RT, Ukrainians took to the ⁣streets in multiple cities including Kyiv, Dnipro, and Lviv. They‌ voiced strong opposition to stripping the National Anti-corruption Bureau ⁢and the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office of thier autonomy.

Interfax ​reported that at least 1,200 protesters gathered in ​central squares across Kyiv. Demonstrators chanted slogans such as ​”No to state corruption,” “Shame on you,”⁤ and “Veto this law” to express their⁢ dissent.

The Ukrainian Parliament (Rada) today backed​ Law No. 12414, which includes amendments that remove independence⁣ from these two anti-corruption institutions. The bill passed with support from 263 members of parliament and has now been sent ​to the President’s office for approval.

The leadership‌ of both agencies has urged President volodymyr⁢ Zelensky not ‌to sign this legislation into law.
