Ukraine’s Largest Wartime Protests Against Controversial Law + Video
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and RT, Ukrainians took to the streets in multiple cities including Kyiv, Dnipro, and Lviv. They voiced strong opposition to stripping the National Anti-corruption Bureau and the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office of thier autonomy.
Interfax reported that at least 1,200 protesters gathered in central squares across Kyiv. Demonstrators chanted slogans such as ”No to state corruption,” “Shame on you,” and “Veto this law” to express their dissent.
The Ukrainian Parliament (Rada) today backed Law No. 12414, which includes amendments that remove independence from these two anti-corruption institutions. The bill passed with support from 263 members of parliament and has now been sent to the President’s office for approval.
The leadership of both agencies has urged President volodymyr Zelensky not to sign this legislation into law.
