West’s Empty Promise for an Independent Palestinian State: Is a New Tactic Underway?
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News agency, amid the conference titled “Two-State Solution” chaired by Saudi Arabia and France, and Western calls to “recognise the State of Palestine,” numerous analyses have emerged in regional and global media examining this new Western approach. Al Jazeera featured an article by Jordanian political analyst and writer Arib Al-Rantawi that explores these issues in depth; a summary follows below.
The West’s Contradictory Stance on Recognizing Palestine
Over recent weeks, a major dual storm has swept across the conflict zone between Palestine and Israel. The issue of recognizing-or rather promising to recognize-a Palestinian state has been increasingly debated by Western and international capitals, most of which remain steadfast supporters of Israel’s occupation regime and its Zionist project in the region.
This Western stance arises concurrently with widespread global condemnation denouncing genocide and ethnic cleansing perpetrated by Israeli forces against Palestinians in Gaza. It represents an unprecedented shift since eight decades ago when hostilities began-a strategic change whose outcomes will unfold over coming days amid ongoing clashes.
The West’s delayed discussion about recognizing a Palestinian state is coupled with ambiguous, contradictory positions. This inconsistency has fueled suspicion among many observers-Palestinians as well as their supporters-who view it as a trap designed to jeopardize rather than advance palestinian rights. the West’s latest maneuver concerning recognition amounts to a conspiracy posing serious dangers to Palestinians’ peoplehood, rights, aspirations, and legitimate struggle.
The West’s Move Toward Undermining Palestinian Rights
Opponents of resistance-nonetheless of their background or orientation-have seized upon this development swiftly. They have sought to steer recognition discussions away from benefiting resistance or Palestinians; rather, they aim to inflict severe damage on both causes-even possibly leading to dismantling resistance within Palestine itself. Western voices addressing recognition fail to acknowledge Israel’s brutal crimes against Gaza civilians or its genocidal siege causing starvation while attempting rather to blame resistance for Gaza’s humanitarian catastrophe.
The initial statements from these Western powers condemn Palestinian resistance without addressing Israeli atrocities. Their narrative implies that resistance bears full duty for Palestinians’ suffering over past decades-in stark contrast with reality. Supporters forget that without resilience exerted by resistance forces-and their ability to wage war unaided by any arab army while all global powers supported Israel-the momentum generated by operations such as Al-Aqsa storm would never have ignited today’s worldwide shift in public opinion nor exposed Israel’s savage nature so publicly.
These parties either truly forget or purposely ignore what Palestinian resistance achieved within less than two years: successes unmatched through hundreds of conferences, initiatives, UN resolutions, conventions over many years labeled so-called ’peace processes’ or normalization efforts with occupation authorities upheld previously.
Likewise, Arab regimes aligning themselves officially alongside Europe against resistance conveniently overlook that they bear substantial responsibility for Gaza’s humanitarian disaster-not merely due to silence facing Israeli crimes but acting as accomplices who denied even basic aid like food or water deliveries into Gaza.
Had these Arab states abided at minimum by standards set forth more than ten years ago under arab initiatives-and wielded available political, diplomatic, economic tools accordingly-the crisis engulfing Gaza would not be prolonged thus far.
Meanwhile, the utterly submissive position adopted now by the powerless Palestinian Authority fully coordinated with adversaries deserves attention-as it capitulates entirely before lengthy lists detailing onerous preconditions demanded for recognizing a State of Palestine.
