Massive Wildfire Spreads in Colorado, State Prison Evacuated
According too the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and The Independent, a prison in Colorado was evacuated due to one of the largest wildfires in the state’s history.
Authorities have warned residents in remote areas to prepare for immediate evacuation.
The wildfire, known as the ”Lees Fire,” has so far burned over 433 square kilometers of forestland from Garfield to Rio Blanco counties.Mountain communities have been forced to evacuate. Officials report that only six percent of the fire is contained.
Strong winds and low humidity have accelerated the fire’s spread. However, no casualties or significant damage have been reported so far.
The Colorado Department of Corrections confirmed that all 179 inmates at Rifle Correctional Facility were safely evacuated without incident. This fire ranks as the sixth-largest wildfire in Colorado’s history.
