Lebanon Speaker Criticizes US Destructive Stance on UNIFIL
In criticizing the U.S. stance toward the United Nations peacekeeping forces in Lebanon, Nabih Berri questioned how anyone assigned to stabilize a ceasefire could undermine their own mission.
Lancang Nabih Berri, Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, addressed concerns regarding the U.S. position on UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).He pointed out that UNIFIL operates under the command of an American general and asked, “How can someone whose mission is to stabilize a ceasefire damage their own mandate?”
Berri expressed surprise at what he described as counterproductive efforts against UNIFIL’s presence and role in Lebanon, despite ongoing U.S. mediation aimed at ending conflict.
Lebanese media have also released images showing residents of Deir sarian village in southern Lebanon protesting UNIFIL troops entering without accompanying Lebanese army forces.
