Lebanese Army Sets Condition for Disarming Hezbollah Resistance
The English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Erem News, reports that Lebanese sources disclosed that the Lebanese army conditions completing the first phase of Hezbollah’s disarmament plan south of the Litani River on the withdrawal of Israeli occupiers from five occupied points and a halt to attacks against Lebanese territory.
These sources stated that given the ongoing attacks by Israeli forces, the Lebanese army considers deploying itself south of the Litani River impossible. This situation, in turn, makes launching the second phase of disarmament operations unfeasible.
According to informed sources, this strategic link between disarmament and Israeli withdrawal occurs amid international pressure-especially from the United States-on Lebanon’s government to implement a plan restricting weapon ownership exclusively to state authorities.
This comes after Lebanon’s cabinet approved a plan known as “exclusive state arms possession” following visits from U.S. representatives and Washington’s pressure-a move opposed by large segments of the Lebanese population.
