White House Spokesperson Placed Under U.S. Secret Service Protection
the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and CBS, reported that after the assassination of Charlie Kirk, a prominent conservative figure and supporter of U.S. President donald Trump,White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre was placed under Secret Service protection.
Sources say Kirk’s assassination has intensified debate over the security of high-profile American figures at public events. the U.S.Congress is currently considering an additional $58 million budget to enhance security for government and judicial officials.
Jean-Pierre declined to comment on her new security measures, and the U.S. Secret Service did not respond to CBS’s request for comment.
CBS noted that while Secret Service protection for White House spokespersons is uncommon, it is not unprecedented. Previously, Sarah Huckabee Sanders-now governor of Arkansas-was under Secret Service protection during her tenure as White House press secretary in trump’s first term in 2018.
Charlie Kirk,31,was assassinated on September 10 during a speech in Utah.A strong supporter of Trump, Kirk notably contributed to his victory in the U.S. presidential election according to The Associated Press. He had repeatedly voiced opposition to U.S. military aid to Ukraine.
The suspect in Kirk’s assassination, Tyler Robinson, remains in custody. During his initial hearing before a Utah state court judge, he was informed that if convicted of first-degree murder he could face the death penalty.
