Canada Backs UN Sanctions Reimposition on Iran
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al Jazeera, canada’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs declared its backing for Washington and the European Troika in reinstating UN sanctions against Iran, as part of continued unfounded allegations by the US and Western countries.
The ministry further urged all UN members to comply with the renewed implementation of these sanctions against Iran.
Canada also claimed that Iran should return to negotiations with Washington concerning an agreement that guarantees it will never acquire nuclear weapons.
The United Kingdom, Germany, and France-known as the European Troika-have accused the Islamic Republic of Iran of violating the 2015 nuclear deal (JCPOA). They launched a 30-day process to activate the snapback mechanism without acknowledging America’s unilateral withdrawal from this agreement in 2018 or violations by European parties.
The United Nations Security Council, under pressure from Washington, rejected on friday a draft resolution submitted by Russia and China aimed at extending Resolution 2231-which supports the nuclear deal with Iran-with 4 votes in favor, 2 abstentions, and 9 opposed.
Following this rejection, international sanctions against Iran were officially reinstated starting Sunday.
