Haj Abolfazl: Martyr Commander Who Survived Two Assassination Attempts
Mehr News Agency, International Desk: At 6:22 p.m. on Friday, September 27, 2024, the Zionist regime launched a large-scale terrorist operation targeting a residential complex in the Harat Hareek area. The intense attacks aimed to assassinate Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah,Hezbollah’s Secretary-General,along with several of his comrades and resulted in their martyrdom.
Alongside the Secretary-General, several Hezbollah commanders were also targeted and killed. Among them was Ali Abdulmonem Korki, known as Hajj Abolfazl. He was responsible for the Sayyed al-Shuhada (Martyrs) headquarters and its military units. Recently identified in Zionist media as a high-profile target due to his significant roles within hezbollah,Korki left behind a distinguished record of jihad and resistance against Israeli occupation at the time of his death.
Hajj Abolfazl: A Martyr from Hezbollah’s Founding Generation
Ali Abdulmonem Korki was born on May 10, 1962, in al-Mustaybeh village. He hailed originally from Ain Bouswar village in Nabatieh district of southern Lebanon. Prior to joining Hezbollah, he graduated from Beirut Arab University and began his militant activities participating in military operations against Israeli forces during their invasion of Beirut in 1982. He played an active role in numerous key operations for Hezbollah including the famous “Ahmed Qasir suicide attack.”
In 1985 after Israel’s partial withdrawal from beirut, he helped establish resistance fronts along the border strip and served as military commander for southern Lebanon until 1996 while coordinating actions against Zionist forces through to their full withdrawal in 2000.
Ali Korki: Commander of Southern Lebanon Front
Korki had been a member of both Hezbollah’s central council and its jihad council as its founding. Since 2008 he served as Deputy Secretary-general of Hezbollah.he played prominent roles across several military campaigns including during the July War (33-day war). From 2006 until his assassination he managed all units within the Sayyed al-shuhada headquarters.
Korki was one of Hezbollah’s leading military strategists involved extensively with advancing combat capabilities through elegant weaponry use and irregular warfare tactics. He played an influential role managing key files related to relations with Syria’s government and directing military campaigns against Takfiri terrorist groups operating within southern Lebanon.
The Zionists considered Ali Korki’s position as commander of southern front-with three elite brigades under him named Badr, Nasser, Aziz-critical because all operational movements against Israeli army positions or northern occupied settlements were conducted under his direct supervision up until his martyrdom.
Zionist repeated Assassination Attempts Alongside U.S. Sanctions
Zionist media monitored him closely as orchestrator behind all attacks by Hezbollah on Tel aviv forces and northern settlements following Operation Al-Aqsa Storm supporting Gaza frontline efforts. Israeli media ranked Ali Korki as third-in-command within Hezbollah equivalent to other martyred commanders like Fouad Shukr and Ibrahim aqil.
The U.S Department of Treasury sanctioned Korki alongside Fouad Shukr and Ibrahim Aqil in September 2019.
In February 2024 Israel attempted an assassination near Nabatieh town but struck a decoy vehicle instead because he was not inside at that time.
Four days before being martyred himself-but days after that botched failed attack-the Israeli army claimed responsibility for an airstrike targeting him on September 23 near Mazi neighborhood.
Despite claims from Israeli outlets about success this attempt reportedly failed according to statements issued by affiliated parties close to Hezbollah indicating that Ali Korki remained unharmed initially before being relocated safely out of harm’s way after multiple deadly missile strikes used during this attack according Lebanese sources reporting six guided missiles fired at him directly.
After around four decades dedicated resisting Israeli occupation , Hajj Abolfazl ultimately attained martyrdom alongside sayyed Hassan Nasrallah , marking another profound loss for Lebanese resistance . p >
