US and UK Sanction Two Major Russian Oil Companies
The US Treasury Department has placed Russian oil giants Rosneft and Lukoil on its sanctions list, according to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Al Mayadeen via Mehr News Agency.
Earlier today, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bassent announced that the White House would unveil new sanctions against Russia either today or tomorrow (Thursday).
He stated that these would be significant and powerful measures targeting russia.
Bassent added that President Trump feels frustrated with the stalled negotiations to end the war in Ukraine.
UK Prime Minister: London imposes sanctions on two major Russian oil firms
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer also declared that London has sanctioned two of Russia’s largest oil companies, which he claimed “finance Vladimir Putin’s war machine.”
He welcomed the coordinated efforts with the United States in implementing broad sanctions against these Russian firms.
Starmer asserted that Putin must pay for his illegal invasion and insisted that killings in Ukraine must stop promptly.
This joint action by the UK and US highlights a dual policy approach by Western powers regarding conflicts in Ukraine versus gaza. Unlike their proactive stance to halt war efforts in Ukraine, London and Washington have refrained from taking similar actions to stop Israel’s military operations against Gaza.
