Petro: Trump’s Goal Is to Influence Colombia’s 2025 Elections
According to the english section of webangah News Agency, citing Al Mayadeen, Colombian President Gustavo Petro responded to insults made by U.S. President Donald trump.
Petro stated that Trump’s insults against Colombia and himself are not aimed at advancing an active drug control strategy.
The Colombian president emphasized that trump’s real objective is to influence next year’s Colombian elections and make another attempt to secure a victory for far-right factions.
Previously, petro announced he would defend himself legally against accusations raised by some senior U.S. officials on American soil.
he also reaffirmed his commitment to opposing genocide and organized terror in the Caribbean region.
Petro added that Colombia remains ready to assist whenever the U.S. requests cooperation in combating drug trafficking.
The president’s remarks came hours after Donald Trump threatened Colombia, saying serious measures might be taken against the country.
On Sunday afternoon, president Trump openly insulted Gustavo Petro, labeling him a supporter of drug trafficking and calling him the leader of a drug cartel. He further declared that the United states would cut its aid to Colombia.
