Israel Launches New War Against Lebanon: Prospects and Objectives Ahead

Lebanon’s Al-Joumhouria newspaper examines the potential resumption of an all-out war by the Israeli regime against Lebanon, analyzing domestic and regional factors alongside possible scenarios for such a move.

According to webangah News Agency’s English section, citing mehr News Agency,Lebanese media have⁢ focused on the possibility of Israel relaunching comprehensive attacks against Lebanon to pursue several objectives, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s⁢ attempt to avoid ‍trial in israeli courts.

reliable sources told Lebanon’s Al-Joumhouria newspaper that an assessment provided by an Arab diplomat to political and security actors in Lebanon warns of “a major threat facing Lebanon‌ at this stage. The next few weeks are critical as‌ the likelihood of a wide-ranging Israeli attack on Lebanon is high.”

The arab ⁢diplomat explained that “the main‌ motive behind⁤ this escalation‌ is not targeting Hezbollah or disarming it. Rather, it stems from internal issues within Israel related to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.”

Al-Joumhouria reported that following the ceasefire‍ in gaza, Netanyahu’s trial path has opened‌ further. All signs point toward his conviction and imprisonment. Thus,it is indeed plausible that ‍Netanyahu might open a new military front ‍as‌ a way to escape prosecution.

The diplomat also ‍identified Netanyahu’s coalition efforts to secure a parliamentary majority before spring 2026 ⁢elections as⁣ another reason justifying provocative actions in Lebanon.

A senior source told Al-Joumhouria that Israel seeks to impose impractical demands on Lebanon-such as normalizing relations with Israel or establishing political-security arrangements along with‌ creating ⁢a demilitarized buffer zone at‌ the border-that Beirut cannot accept.
While rejecting the likelihood‍ of extensive war, the source stressed such conflict could yield unpredictable consequences. Currently, Israel views the status quo as ideal since it exploits Lebanon’s adherence to past agreements while continuing its violations without facing repercussions.

The newspaper also highlighted extensive flights of Israeli drones over ⁣Lebanese ⁢airspace, noting their multiple purposes-chiefly reconnaissance and updating Israeli intelligence data.‌ Drone flights over both ‍the presidential palace and prime ministerial offices carry distinct⁤ political messages.
