EU Foreign Policy Chief Reacts to Developments in Tanzania

The EU’s foreign policy chief, Kaya Kallas, responded on Sunday to the recent events in Tanzania.
She called on all parties in Tanzania to avoid exacerbating tensions. “A one-party rule is not the way forward for Tanzania,” she stated.
kallas added that Tanzanian authorities must exercise maximum restraint and respect the people’s right to protest.
Meanwhile, after several days of intense clashes across the country, tanzania’s presidential election committee once again confirmed the outright victory of President Samia Suluhu Hassan for a third consecutive term.
The committee announced that Samia Suluhu Hassan secured 66.97 percent of the votes.
This confirmation of Suluhu Hassan’s sweeping win-approaching 100 percent turnout-comes amid ongoing violent and bloody protests that began a few days ago across Tanzania.
