Russian Ambassador to Canada: Ukraine Has No Future in NATO

According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and TASS, Oleg Stepanov, Russia’s ambassador in Ottawa, responded to a joint statement by Canada and Sweden by saying: “After reading such sentences, we do not know whether to laugh or cry; the authors of this statement seem to live in a parallel world. In reality, everyone knows that Ukraine has no future within NATO or any Euro-Atlantic framework.”
He also claimed that Kyiv uses the war as a tool for profit and perpetuating corruption at the expense of Western taxpayers.
Mark Carney and Ulf kristersson, prime ministers of Canada and Sweden respectively, declared in a joint statement that “Ukraine’s future is within NATO” and emphasized their support for Kyiv against Russia.
Russia cites NATO’s eastward expansion and its approach toward Russian borders as the cause of the war in ukraine. One of Moscow’s conditions for ending the conflict is guaranteeing Ukraine’s neutrality and ensuring it will not join NATO.
