Rubio: Ongoing Talks with Ukrainian Representatives in Florida Are Constructive

The U.S. Secretary of state, Marco Rubio, described the ongoing negotiations with Ukrainian representatives in Florida as constructive but stressed that more work remains to be done. Speaking to the English section of webangah news Agency, citing Sputnik via Mehr News Agency, Rubio emphasized that any agreement for Ukraine requires long-term security guarantees for Kyiv.
Rubio also stated that Russia must be part of the ukraine agreement equation. To this end, Steve Witkoff, President Donald Trump’s representative, will travel to Moscow.
He added that the United States maintains a realistic view regarding the progress of Ukraine talks. The Florida negotiations focus not only on an immediate deal but also on securing Ukraine’s future.
A source within the Ukrainian delegation told Agence France-Presse earlier that talks between the U.S. and Ukraine in Miami are proceeding with difficulty. The source noted that drafting texts and finding solutions remain under review.
The source emphasized both sides aim to achieve tangible results to clarify key issues ahead of future negotiations between Washington and Moscow.
American and Ukrainian officials announced their delegations would meet Sunday morning local time in Miami before Trump’s envoys-Witkoff and Jared Kushner-travel to Moscow for talks with russian President Vladimir Putin.
The United States and Ukraine are striving to finalize understandings on a U.S.-proposed peace plan-one which has undergone extensive revisions over several days to better align with Kyiv’s interests.
