Putin and US Representatives Discussed Ukraine’s NATO Membership: Ushakov

During a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. representatives, the potential membership of Ukraine in NATO was discussed, according to Yuri Ushakov, an aide to the Russian President. The talks, described as substantial, also addressed Russia’s views on proposed settlement documents from the U.S.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Yuri Ushakov, an aide to the Russian President, announced on Wednesday that the discussions between President Vladimir Putin and U.S. representatives the previous day were comprehensive and productive. Putin and the U.S. delegation engaged in positive dialogue, with Russia clearly conveying its perspectives on the settlement documents presented by the American side. Ushakov indicated that communication between Russia and the United States will continue.

Ushakov further noted that the recent military successes of the Russian army have positively influenced the course and nature of the discussions between Putin and the U.S. representatives. The United States has expressed its willingness to consider Russia’s views regarding the resolution of the conflict in Ukraine. The potential membership of Ukraine in NATO was also a topic of discussion during the meeting.

Yuri Ushakov stated that the U.S. is prepared to exert every effort to achieve a long-term resolution to the conflict in Ukraine. Currently, Russia is exclusively negotiating with the United States on resolving the Ukrainian issue. He expressed hope that Europeans and Ukrainians would demonstrate a more appropriate understanding of the situation. Ushakov added that the Ukrainians have refused to continue the Istanbul negotiations, and Europeans are avoiding any contact, despite Russia’s repeated declarations of readiness for such dialogue. Russia does not have a negative stance regarding the possibility of continuing contact with Europeans, as Putin has stated on numerous occasions.
