Trump Sues BBC for Defamation Over January 6 Coverage, Seeks $10 Billion

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Donald Trump, the former President of the United States, is suing the BBC for defamation over its coverage of the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot.
Trump’s lawsuit claims that the BBC selectively edited his speech from that day to make it appear as though he supported the attack on the Capitol. The lawsuit alleges that the BBC committed defamation and violated Florida state law regarding deceptive and unfair trade practices.
The former president is seeking at least $5 billion in damages for each of the two charges, totaling a minimum of $10 billion.
Trump has previously filed lawsuits against other media outlets, including CNN, ABC News, CBS News, The Wall Street Journal, and The New York Times.
On January 6, 2021, supporters of Trump stormed the U.S. Capitol building in an attempt to prevent the certification of Democrat Joe Biden’s victory in the presidential election.
The lawsuit against the BBC stems from a program in which the network’s journalists allegedly spliced together two parts of one of Trump’s speeches, creating the impression that he was endorsing the January 6, 2021, insurrection at the Capitol.
