EU Condemns US Travel Restrictions as Challenge to Sovereignty

The European Union’s foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, has rejected the US decision to impose travel restrictions on European citizens and officials, calling it an unacceptable challenge to EU sovereignty.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Kaja Kallas, the European Union’s foreign policy chief, strongly criticized the United States’ decision to impose travel restrictions on European citizens and officials. In a post on the social media platform X, Kallas described the move as unacceptable and an attempt to challenge the EU‘s sovereignty.

Kallas further stated that Europe would continue to defend its values, including freedom of expression, fair digital laws, and the right to regulate its own digital space. This statement comes hours after the European Commission condemned the US visa ban on five European nationals, including former EU Commissioner Thierry Breton.

Tensions between Washington and Brussels have recently escalated over regulatory and legal issues. On the other hand, Jameson Greer, the US trade representative, recently warned on X that if the EU and its member states persist in imposing discriminatory measures that restrict and reduce the competitiveness of US service providers, the United States would have no choice but to use all available tools to counter these unjustified actions.

Greer pointed to US domestic laws, noting that the country could impose tariffs and restrictions on foreign suppliers if necessary. This stance follows the EU’s recent fine against X, the platform owned by American billionaire Elon Musk, for violating European digital service laws.
