Mazloum Abdi Heads to Damascus Amid Escalating Tensions in Eastern Syria

Mazloum Abdi, commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), has traveled to Damascus for talks with Hayat Tahrir al-Sham leader Abu Mohammad al-Julani, as clashes intensify in eastern Syria. Meanwhile, the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria warns of a potential ISIS prison break in Raqqa if attacks continue.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Mazloum Abdi, the commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), has reportedly traveled to Damascus for a meeting with Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) leader Abu Mohammad al-Julani. This development comes amid escalating clashes between SDF forces and HTS-affiliated groups in eastern Syria, particularly west of the Euphrates.

The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria has issued a stark warning about the potential escape of detained ISIS members from prisons in Raqqa if military attacks near the area persist. In a statement, the administration emphasized that continued hostilities could destabilize security at detention facilities, posing a serious threat of reactivating terrorist cells.

The statement described such a scenario as having catastrophic consequences not only for northeastern Syria but for the entire country, the region, and the world. The administration stressed that protecting detention centers and refugee camps, particularly ISIS prisons, is a collective responsibility.

It called for an immediate cessation of attacks, adherence to international humanitarian law, and guarantees for civilian safety and critical infrastructure. The administration also urged the international coalition to recognize the gravity of the situation, fulfill its responsibilities, and take urgent action to stop violations by groups linked to Syria’s transitional government.

Concluding the statement, the Autonomous Administration reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the region’s population and continuing the fight against terrorism, vowing not to remain passive in the face of any threats to security and stability in northeastern Syria.
