Baghdad Links Prime Ministerial Selection to Internal Consensus, Dismissing Foreign Influence

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Hussein Al-Sadiq, a member of Iraq‘s State of Law coalition, explicitly stated that Nouri al-Maliki continues to be the leading option for the Coordination Framework alliance to assume the position of Prime Minister. This confirmation underscores the alliance’s internal process for selecting its candidate for the top executive role.
Al-Sadiq further elaborated that Nouri al-Maliki enjoys the support of an overwhelming majority among the constituent factions within the Coordination Framework. He emphasized that any discussion concerning a potential replacement for al-Maliki would only be considered through collective internal deliberation and would not be a reaction to outside political demands.
The Iraqi official made it clear that the Coordination Framework bases all of its political candidacies strictly on internal agreements. He asserted that the positions adopted by other nations will not impact this internal process regarding the selection of the next Iraqi head of government.
This firm stance comes in the wake of recent comments from U.S. President Donald Trump, who had previously voiced his opposition to Nouri al-Maliki’s potential candidacy through statements deemed by some observers as interventionist regarding Iraqi domestic affairs.
