US Forces Complete Full Withdrawal from Strategic Al-Tanf Base in Syria

American military personnel have completely evacuated the Al-Tanf base in Syria after nearly eleven years, handing control of the strategically vital outpost over to Syrian government forces, according to reports citing US officials.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Reuters, citing US officials, has confirmed the complete withdrawal of American military personnel from the Al-Tanf base located at the tri-border area of Jordan, Syria, and Iraq.

This marks the conclusion of an almost eleven-year presence at the outpost, which has now been fully handed over to Syrian government forces. Military analysts suggest that the US Army spent the last two weeks transferring equipment from Al-Tanf to other installations, including the Al-Burj 22 base in Jordan, situated approximately 22 kilometers from Al-Tanf.

The Al-Tanf base was considered a key strategic location for the United States in the West Asia region due to its critical positioning near the shared borders of Iraq, Syria, and Jordan. Its proximity to the Al-Walid border crossing into Iraq and its location along the vital Baghdad-Damascus communication route underscored its importance.

Previous reports have indicated that US forces stationed at Al-Tanf played a significant role in the transfer of ISIS terrorists from prisons held by Kurdish militias to various locations across Syria and Iraq.
