Iraqi Prime Minister Calls for Dialogue Between Iran and United States

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani emphasized Baghdad’s desire for direct talks between Iran and the U.S. during a meeting with the Belgian Ambassador to Baghdad, while also addressing regional security and the repatriation of ISIS detainees.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani reviewed the latest regional and international developments in a meeting with Serge Decraene, the Belgian Ambassador to Baghdad.

During the consultation, Prime Minister Al-Sudani underscored Baghdad’s firm position advocating for adherence to the principle of dialogue between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States. He further highlighted the significant security responsibilities Iraq bears for maintaining regional stability and order.

Discussions also centered on the ongoing issue of detained members of the terrorist group ISIS. The Iraqi Prime Minister stressed the nation’s commitment to apprehending and prosecuting these individuals in accordance with international standards. Concurrently, he urged the relevant countries of origin to proceed with the extradition of their national ISIS detainees, ensuring they are handed over to the Iraqi judicial system for processing.

The Belgian Ambassador praised Iraq’s role, characterizing it as a pivotal nation in the region whose stability is of paramount importance to the European Union. Ambassador Decraene also conveyed the interest of Belgian companies in expanding their investment and operational activities within Iraq.
