Trump Criticizes Canada Over Currency Disparity, Escalating Trade Tensions

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, U.S. President Donald Trump, continuing his policy of criticizing nations that do not align with his disruptive strategies, posted on his social media platform “Truth Social” stating that the imbalance of the Canadian dollar against the U.S. dollar is unacceptable.

President Trump elaborated on his stance, asserting that the situation has persisted for years but will no longer continue in the same manner. This development follows Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney’s earlier announcement that Canada would impose tariffs on approximately 700 U.S. goods, valued at 27.6 billion Canadian dollars, effective September 8th. This measure is a direct response to new U.S. tariffs.

Prime Minister Carney emphasized that Canada’s response would be “dollar for dollar,” adding, “We have been attacked and we cannot accept what the United States has proposed.” Earlier, Canadian Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne had stated in reaction to U.S. hostile actions that Canada would reciprocate by imposing tariffs on American goods.

The Finance Minister further clarified that Canada is implementing tariffs on U.S. goods exceeding 27 billion dollars in value as a countermeasure.
