Armenia’s Civil Contract Party Claims Parliamentary Election Victory

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that his Civil Contract party has achieved victory in the country’s parliamentary elections and will be able to form the future government without the need for a coalition. Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Pashinyan referenced the results of the parliamentary elections held on June 7, stating that the Civil Contract party secured the majority of votes and will assume the responsibility of governing alone.
Based on preliminary data from the Central Election Commission of Armenia, after counting approximately 25 percent of the ballots, the Civil Contract party is leading with around 54.6 percent of the votes. Following them are the “Armenia Strong” coalition, led by Samvel Karapetyan, with approximately 22 percent, and the “Armenia” coalition, led by former President Robert Kocharyan, with about 8.7 percent, in the subsequent rankings.
Meanwhile, some opposition factions have criticized the election process and raised concerns about potential irregularities. Some opposition representatives have claimed instances of group voter registration at a single address, as well as the arrest of some opposition supporters.
According to official sources, a total of over 1,470,000 people participated in these elections, with a turnout rate reported at approximately 59 percent. Under Armenian election law, if no party secures more than 50 percent of the votes, a second round of elections will be held between the top two parties. However, the initial results indicate the ruling party’s leading position in this contest.
