Maariv Slams Netanyahu’s ‘Irresponsible Adventure,’ Warning of Regional Escalation

An op-ed published in the Israeli newspaper Maariv criticizes Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s military and political conduct, particularly the strike on the southern suburbs of Beirut, characterizing it as a ‘shocking irresponsibility’ that endangers the entire region without achieving strategic gains.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Israeli writer and journalist Dan Berry has criticized the military and political conduct of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of the occupying regime. In an article published in the Maariv newspaper, Berry described Netanyahu’s action of attacking the southern suburb of Beirut as “shocking irresponsibility” that endangers the entire region, while failing to achieve any strategic change or calculated logic.

The Israeli newspaper deemed the attack futile, stating that its only result was Iran’s ballistic missile attack on the northern occupied territories and an escalation of regional tension. This occurred even as the U.S. President had expressed his desire to end the war in the region.

Maariv further characterized the Israeli regime’s independence from the United States as an illusion, emphasizing that without American airlifts, ammunition supplies, UN veto power, and diplomatic support against European and international institutions, the Israeli regime cannot sustain a large-scale war for more than a few weeks.

The newspaper added that the Israeli regime has cornered itself into a situation where it is compelled to contain Iranian bombardment and ensure the calm of its settlers, as it cannot continue a broad war without American support.

The article attributed the U.S. opposition to escalating tensions to domestic issues, noting that Trump faces an angry public opinion, rising energy prices, and midterm elections. He understands that a prolonged regional war could turn him into a “lame duck” and lead to Republicans losing control of Congress, paving the way for investigations and even presidential impeachment.

The Israeli writer stressed that Washington is seeking an honorable exit from the war, but Tel Aviv’s insistence on igniting the suburbs is causing intense U.S. pressure on Israel.

The report highlighted the contradiction in the tactical objectives of Trump and Netanyahu, adding that while Trump requires stability, Netanyahu, due to a significant lag in polls and signs of an impending electoral defeat, needs to change the current scene.
