UN Chief Urges Immediate Reopening of Gaza Crossings for Humanitarian Aid

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has stressed the urgent need for Gaza’s crossings to be immediately reopened to allow unhindered humanitarian aid, highlighting the unprecedented loss of UN personnel.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres emphasized that Gaza‘s crossings must be reopened immediately to permit the entry of humanitarian aid without any obstacles. He added that 136 UN staff members lost their lives in the past year while performing their duties, with 80 of them working for the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) in the Gaza Strip.

Guterres specified that this marks the highest number of UN personnel casualties recorded in conflicts or other incidents throughout history. He stated that targeting UN personnel and peacekeepers constitutes a violation of international law.

Notably, the Hebrew-language newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported yesterday that the Israeli regime has halted the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip until further notice. This development occurs despite aid previously entering Gaza in a limited and partial manner, and the occupying regime failing to adhere to its commitments under the ceasefire agreement.
