Oman and Iran Hold Inaugural Joint Committee Meeting on Strait of Hormuz Management

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Oman announced that the inaugural joint committee meeting between Oman and Iran concerning the Strait of Hormuz was held in Muscat, the Omani capital. During the session, perspectives on the future management of the Strait of Hormuz were deliberated.
The Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement indicating that both sides exchanged views on the future administration of the Strait of Hormuz and associated matters. The statement further elaborated that avenues for strengthening coordination on issues pertaining to the Strait of Hormuz, within the framework of shared interests and national sovereignty of both nations, were explored.
Both parties reiterated their commitment to international law and engaged in discussions regarding cooperation frameworks for shipping and maritime services. These consultations were conducted in light of Iran and Oman’s positions as the two coastal states of the Strait of Hormuz and were based on existing bilateral understandings and international agreements.
The Omani delegation at the meeting was led by Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Hinaai, while the Iranian delegation was headed by Kazem Gharibabadi, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister.
