US Navy Faces Significant Readiness Crisis Amid Iran Tensions, Wall Street Journal Reports

The United States Navy is grappling with a severe readiness crisis, compounded by extended deployments and equipment wear, as it confronts escalating tensions with Iran, according to the Wall Street Journal.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Wall Street Journal has highlighted a critical challenge facing the United States: a significant decline in its naval readiness, occurring concurrently with an arms race against Iran.

The newspaper’s analysis, citing data from the Mehr News Agency, reveals that aircraft carriers like the USS Abraham Lincoln have spent approximately 250 days at sea, with a substantial portion of this time dedicated to operations supporting actions against Iran. The operational duration for some other American aircraft carriers has exceeded 250 and even 300 days.

This sustained high tempo of operations is leading to the exhaustion of sailors, an increase in equipment malfunctions, and prolonged maintenance periods. The report suggests that the U.S. Navy is depleting its military capacity at a rate faster than it can be restored to counter this wear and tear.

The Wall Street Journal further noted that the crisis of declining naval readiness predates the presidency of Donald Trump, the current U.S. President. However, the decision to engage in conflict has amplified these issues, making them more apparent to the public and presenting the United States with a long-term challenge to rebuild its naval fleet and replenish its arms stockpiles.

It was previously disclosed that due to the lengthy mission period of one such carrier and the prevalence of psychological distress among its crew, several personnel attempted to self-harm by jumping into the sea.
