North Korea Dismisses Trump’s Claims of Communication, Cautions on US-South Korea Drills

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, North Korea‘s state media has reported that Kim Yo Jong, Vice Department Director of the Central Committee of the ruling Workers’ Party of Korea, has stated that her country has no knowledge of U.S. President Donald Trump’s claims of establishing communication with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. She further emphasized that even if the duration of joint military exercises between South Korea and the United States is reduced, their offensive nature will remain unchanged.
South Korean radio had previously announced that joint military exercises between the U.S. and South Korea were scheduled to take place in two phases, from August 17th to 21st and August 23rd to 27th. These drills were designed to simulate scenarios involving a North Korean attack on South Korea and a subsequent counterattack by the South.
In response to President Trump’s directive to scale back joint military exercises, the President of South Korea has reportedly renewed efforts to regain independent control of the country’s military from the United States in the event of war, and has called for accelerated progress in acquiring nuclear-powered submarines.
Earlier, President Trump had instructed the Pentagon to significantly reduce the joint military drills scheduled for this week with South Korea, citing a very good relationship with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
