US Opposed Oman’s Concessions to Iran in Strait of Hormuz Talks, AP Reports

The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump believed Omani officials granted excessive concessions to Iran during negotiations concerning control of the Strait of Hormuz, according to an Associated Press report citing informed sources.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Associated Press, citing informed sources, has revealed that the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump believed Omani officials granted excessive concessions to Iran during negotiations concerning control of the Strait of Hormuz. The United States opposes several agreements reached between Iran and Oman, particularly those pertaining to the joint control of vessel traffic in the strait and the imposition of transit fees on shipowners.

The White House reportedly holds the view that Oman did not adopt a sufficiently firm stance during its discussions with Iran. This development follows a statement by President Trump on August 17, wherein he expressed dissatisfaction with Oman’s actions and threatened to “bombard” the country severely if it obstructed the resolution of the dispute between Iran and the United States.
