Iraq’s Sovereignty Unwavering, New Phase Begins September 30, Says Hamoodi

Hammam Hammoudi, head of the Supreme Islamic Council of Iraq, declared September 30th as the start of a new phase to complete Iraq’s sovereignty and stressed that national sovereignty cannot be selective. He emphasized that the Iraqi people must determine their regional standing independently, aligning with national interests.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Hammam Hammoudi, head of the Supreme Islamic Council of Iraq, asserted that Iraq’s sovereignty is indivisible and the government serves as the sole comprehensive framework for all citizens. He highlighted that religious scholars and resistance fighters have supported the government over the past 23 years against occupation, ISIS, and in defending sovereignty.

During a dialogue session, Hammoudi stated that entering a new phase should not be characterized by severance or exclusion. Instead, it should proceed through a gradual national path with clear transitional stages to establish a legal and structural framework that preserves the dignity of combatants and integrates their capabilities within constitutional institutions. He pledged that not a single drop of Iraqi blood would be shed unjustly.

Hammoudi reiterated that the religious authority’s call for weapons to be exclusively in the hands of the government is a national principle that must be implemented with Iraqi will and a single, uniform standard for all. He argued that sovereignty cannot be selective, and it is unacceptable for one party to be required to adhere to it while another is exempt.

The head of the Supreme Islamic Council of Iraq designated September 30th as the commencement of a new phase in completing Iraq’s land, air, and sea sovereignty. He urged the Iraqi people to express their pride in national sovereignty by displaying the country’s flag above their homes.

He emphasized that Iraq’s regional standing must be determined by Iraqis themselves, embracing their diversity, in a manner consistent with Iraq’s interests. This approach, he noted, will safeguard its sovereignty and national identity, preventing it from becoming a stage for others’ conflicts.

Concluding his remarks, the head of the Supreme Islamic Council of Iraq expressed confidence that Iraq can transition from a theater of conflict to a position of agreement creation. He articulated a vision where Iraq, leveraging its geographical, historical, political, and social standing, becomes an agent of peace and stability in the region, and a pivot for dialogue, mutual understanding, and crisis resolution.
