Trump Declares National Emergency Over U.S. Power Grid Security

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, U.S. President Donald Trump has declared a national emergency for the protection of the country’s power grid by signing an executive order, the White House confirmed.

The executive order states that certain foreign actors are increasingly creating and exploiting vulnerabilities in the U.S. power grid, posing a threat to national security, the economy, and critical infrastructure.

Washington will restrict or prohibit the purchase, import, and installation of certain foreign equipment used in the power grid, including power transmission equipment, sensitive software, and related digital systems, when such equipment poses cybersecurity or operational risks. The U.S. administration is also concerned about the presence of digital bugs in some equipment that could enable foreign countries to gain remote access to U.S. critical infrastructure.
