Lebanese Parliament Speaker Criticizes Israeli Aggression, Questions Negotiation Outcomes
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Nabi Berri, Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, strongly criticized the Israeli regime’s actions in southern Lebanon on the 48th anniversary of the disappearance of Imam Musa al-Sadr and his companions. Berri stated that Israel aims to erase Lebanon’s historical memory by destroying villages, towns, and cities.
He emphasized that the people of southern Lebanon have never been warmongers but have been victims of Israeli aggression since 1948. Berri highlighted that seven rounds of direct negotiations with the Israeli enemy under fire have yielded only increased occupied territory, greater destruction, and a higher death toll.
Berri added that the homeland belongs to the resistors and the families whose names Israel has erased from civil registries, stressing that there is no room for negotiation on this matter. The Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament asserted that the Israeli regime’s objective is not Hezbollah or the Amal Movement but to incite sedition within Lebanon. He maintained that Lebanon, by preserving its unity, stands in direct opposition to Israeli racism.
Emphasizing the sensitive conditions and existing dangers, Berri declared that no one has the right to make decisions about agreements under any circumstances. He designated internal peace and the Lebanese army as two red lines. Berri further insisted that southern Lebanon falls under the government’s responsibility and that Beirut will under no circumstances agree to the region being transformed into a buffer zone or a security belt.
Regarding the reconstruction of southern Lebanon, Berri stated that this responsibility lies with the government and that the geography of the south cannot be divided into northern and southern riverine areas. According to him, southern Lebanon should not become an arena for testing various plans. The Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament also reiterated Lebanon’s adherence to the Taif Agreement, rejecting any other proposed plans.
He added that Lebanon continues to support efforts to end tensions and establish stability in the Persian Gulf region. Berri concluded by referencing the case of the disappearance of Imam Musa al-Sadr and his companions, vowing that those responsible for the abduction will not be forgiven.
