Peru Severes Diplomatic Ties With Iran Citing Regional Instability

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Peru has decided to cut its diplomatic ties with Iran, as reported by Al Jazeera via Mehr News Agency. The Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the government has made this decision due to Iran’s alleged provocative actions aimed at escalating violence and tension in the Middle East, and hindering the work of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

This move by Peru comes despite Iran’s consistent cooperation with the IAEA across all dimensions. The ministry further asserted its condemnation of Iran’s alleged role in exacerbating regional tensions. Peru also expressed deep concern regarding developments that threaten regional stability, global peace, and security. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted its serious monitoring of what it termed “violations of internal freedoms in Iran” and disruptions to shipping traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.
