Egyptian and Chinese Presidents Hold Extensive Talks, Sign Agreements
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi received Chinese President Xi Jinping in Cairo on Wednesday. Following the meeting, a broad session was held with the participation of delegations from both countries, after which an agreement and several Memoranda of Understanding were signed.
The two sides discussed a range of regional and international issues of common interest. They emphasized the alignment of Egyptian and Chinese views on the necessity of prioritizing diplomatic solutions to achieve comprehensive and sustainable resolutions to crises.
President el-Sisi and President Xi reviewed efforts related to de-escalation in the Middle East and affirmed their support for initiatives aimed at reaching a comprehensive agreement to halt conflict. President el-Sisi underscored the priority of reducing tensions, respecting the sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council states and Jordan, ensuring freedom of navigation, and preventing the negative repercussions of crises from affecting peoples.
Developments concerning the Palestinian issue were also a key topic of discussion. President el-Sisi stressed the need for a just solution based on international legitimacy resolutions and principles, and referenced Egypt’s efforts to advance the implementation of the second phase of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip. He also highlighted the importance of sufficient aid, particularly medical supplies and equipment, entering Gaza. He expressed gratitude for China’s support of Palestinian rights and the two-state solution as the sole path to lasting peace.
Furthermore, President el-Sisi emphasized the vital importance of the Nile River to Egypt as its primary lifeline and affirmed Egypt’s legitimate right to protect its water and food security and developmental interests. He called on all Nile Basin countries to adhere to international laws, including the principle of refraining from causing damage.
The Chinese President, in turn, commended Egypt’s efforts under President el-Sisi’s leadership to foster peace and stability in its regional environment across the Middle East and Africa. He thanked President el-Sisi for the warm welcome and generous hospitality, expressing his country’s deep appreciation for the growing and diversified cooperation with Egypt. President Xi reiterated China’s desire to enhance coordination in various international forums and on shared regional and international matters to support security, development, and the peaceful resolution of disputes.
President Xi elaborated on China’s perspective on several regional and international issues, emphasizing the importance of continued joint cooperation to defend the interests of developing countries and bolster their role in shaping the future of the international system. The presidents of Egypt and China agreed to continue efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and increase consultations on issues of mutual concern.
