Former Israeli PM Olmert Confirms Mossad Assassination of Syrian General
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Zionist regime has, after 18 years, revealed the secret behind the assassination of Syrian General Mohammed Suleiman in Tartus. Ehud Olmert, the then-Prime Minister of the Zionist regime, disclosed that his navy’s special commando unit conducted the assassination operation against Mohammed Suleiman, a prominent advisor to former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, in the coastal city of Tartus in 2008.
The Hebrew newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported, based on Olmert’s account, that members of this special unit of the Zionist army arrived on the coast of Tartus province on August 1, 2008. As General Mohammed Suleiman was having dinner at his seaside home, they approached his residence. The report states that the members of the Zionist regime’s naval unit fired at General Suleiman from approximately 150 meters away after identifying his position. After the bullet struck Suleiman in the back of the head, the Zionist forces boarded a boat and left the area by sea.
Following the assassination, reports from Zionist and foreign media indicated suspicion of the regime’s involvement in Mohammed Suleiman’s killing, but the Syrian government at the time lacked evidence to prove it. Months after the assassination, the late Secretary-General of Hezbollah, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, referring to General Suleiman’s role in the Second Lebanon War, indicated that the Zionist regime was behind his assassination.
In 2015, The Intercept published documents indicating that, according to U.S. National Security Agency information, the assassination operation of this Syrian general was carried out by the ‘Shayetet 13’ unit, which is the special commando unit of the Zionist regime’s navy. In 2010, the English newspaper The Guardian published information about Syria’s investigation into the assassination of General Mohammed Suleiman, based on a telegraph that stated Syrian security forces had quickly surrounded the scene and searched the surrounding areas, with evidence suggesting Tel Aviv was the main suspect in the operation.
The narrative now provided by Ehud Olmert reopens the case of General Suleiman’s assassination 18 years after it occurred, following years of the Zionist regime’s avoidance of officially accepting responsibility for the operation, despite numerous reports linking it to the attack.
