US Ambassador to Turkey Defends Sanctions Against Iranian Financial Channels

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, U.S. Ambassador to Ankara Tom Barrack defended the Treasury Department’s sanctions against a financial institution in Turkey, claiming the sanctions are not a judgment on Turkey or its banking system.

Barrack, appearing to mitigate the fallout from the U.S. action, stated, “I am confident that this action will be seen in the future as a sign of the strength of the partnership between the United States and Turkey, rather than a factor creating tension in the relations between the two countries.”

The U.S. Ambassador to Ankara, without referencing the failure of the “maximum pressure” campaign, asserted that the campaign against Iran is focused on closing off money laundering channels for revenue generated from Iran’s activities.

He defended the hostile and oppressive action, claiming Washington’s measures are aimed at ensuring the health and integrity of the global financial system, without acknowledging the destructive actions of the United States in various countries.

These remarks followed U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant’s claim on Friday evening that the United States had severed Iran’s vital financial arteries in Turkey by imposing sanctions on Golden Globe Bank.
