German Politician Denounces Berlin’s Claims Against Moscow as Baseless
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, a German politician has asserted that the German government has presented no evidence to substantiate claims of Russian interference in the Leipzig drone incident. Sevim Dagdelen, a foreign policy expert associated with the German party “Sarah Wagenknecht Alliance – For Reason and Justice,” informed RIA Novosti that Berlin has failed to provide any documentation to prove its accusations against Moscow.
Dagdelen emphasized that in matters of war and peace, governments have an obligation to make evidence accessible to the public, rather than relying solely on unsubstantiated allegations. She argued that the government must not confine itself to making claims without proof.
Earlier, Sergey Nechayev, Russia’s Ambassador to Germany, had stated that Moscow views the drone incident in Leipzig and Berlin’s reaction to it as a deliberate provocation. The drone incident in Leipzig has escalated from a localized event to a significant diplomatic and security tension between Germany and Russia.
Germany has officially held Russia responsible for the August 4 incident at Leipzig/Halle Airport. Germany’s Interior Minister indicated that investigations by German security agencies and their European partners clearly pointed to Russian involvement. Explosives and explosive equipment were reportedly discovered on a drone found at the scene of the incident.
Russia has denied these allegations. The Russian Embassy in Berlin has described Germany’s claims as baseless and provocative. Moscow has also issued a warning that Germany’s actions will not go unanswered.
In response, Germany announced the closure of the Russian consulate in Bonn and the cessation of activities by the “Russian House” in Berlin. Furthermore, Germany has indicated an intensification of entry controls for Russian citizens and efforts to add Russian individuals and entities to the European Union’s sanctions list. The Russian Foreign Ministry, in turn, summoned the German Chargé d’Affaires in Moscow.
