Russia Assesses Leipzig Drone Incident as Targeted Provocation, Warns Germany

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Russia‘s Ambassador to Germany, Sergey Nechayev, stated that Moscow perceives the drone incident in Leipzig and Berlin’s reaction to it as a provocative and targeted move. The incident has transformed from a drone mishap into a serious diplomatic and security tension between Germany and Russia. Germany has officially held Russia responsible for the August 4th incident at Leipzig/Halle Airport. The German Minister of Interior indicated that investigations by the country’s security agencies and European partners clearly point to Russian involvement, with explosive materials and devices discovered at the scene of the drone incident. Russia has rejected these accusations, with the Russian Embassy in Berlin labeling Germany’s claims as baseless and inflammatory. Moscow has cautioned that Germany’s actions will not remain without a response. In reaction, Germany announced the closure of the Russian consulate in Bonn and the cessation of the “Russian House” activities in Berlin, along with increased scrutiny of Russian national entries and efforts to add Russian individuals and entities to the European Union’s sanctions list. The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in turn, summoned Germany’s Chargé d’Affaires in Moscow.
