German Police Discover 21 Explosive Devices Near Power Grid
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, German prosecutors in the eastern state of Saxony announced on Monday that authorities have discovered a total of 21 explosive devices during their investigation into attacks on the power grid that have kept them on full alert in recent days. This report is based on information published by the Mehr News Agency, citing Reuters.
In a joint statement, police and prosecutors revealed that investigators discovered nine additional improvised explosive devices over the weekend near high-voltage power lines south of the Graustein substation in the Görlitz district of eastern Germany. This brings the total number of discovered and neutralized explosive materials to 21.
Germany has been a focal point of European concerns regarding the vulnerability of critical infrastructure, having experienced a series of sabotage acts targeting its power grid last week. These incidents followed a drone attack on Leipzig/Halle Airport in August, which the German government attributed to Russia.
German police announced on Friday that they are searching for a man who claimed responsibility for a series of sabotage attacks on the power grid in the past week through the sending of letters. This action by the police came after officers found items in the man’s home that appeared to be explosive materials. The man remains at large.
