UK to Ban Goods from Israeli Settlements in West Bank

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the United Kingdom will officially declare a ban on trade with Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank on Tuesday. The British government views this measure as part of its efforts to bolster the prospects of a two-state solution.

Earlier last week, UK Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband indicated that London was reassessing its policy concerning Israel. He is scheduled to address Parliament today regarding Israel and proposed trade restrictions.

While UK Pensions Minister Pat McFadden did not elaborate on the specifics of the ban’s implementation, he stated that the heightened pace of settlement construction in recent weeks and months has escalated the risks to the viability of a two-state solution.

Newly appointed UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham also emphasized the critical importance of a two-state solution during discussions with Donald Trump on Monday.

British officials, along with the majority of governments and United Nations bodies, consider Israeli settlements in the West Bank to be illegal under international law, designating the area as under Israeli military occupation.
