Germany Postpones Scheduled Call Between Merz and U.S. President Trump

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the German government announced that a scheduled phone call between Friedrich Merz and U.S. President Donald Trump, which was slated for Wednesday, has been postponed by the German side. This information was released by Mehr News Agency, citing Anadolu Agency.

Steffen Corneliuss, spokesperson for the German government, stated in a press conference, “The Chancellor’s schedule had foreseen a telephone call with President Trump for today, but the German side postponed this contact.”

He added that a new date for the call has not yet been set and declined to comment on the reason for the postponement.

This development occurs amid recent public criticism from the Trump administration regarding Germany‘s immigration policies and support for the far-right party “Alternative for Germany” (AfD). The AfD secured a victory in the state elections held on Sunday in Saxony-Anhalt.

On Tuesday, President Trump expressed his approval of the election results on the social media platform Truth Social, writing, “Wow! Germany’s populist party had a very big night. They are finally tired of the terrible immigration laws that have severely harmed Germany. They are surging and no longer want to tolerate this situation! MGGA!!!”

MGGA is an acronym for Trump’s slogan, “Make Germany Great Again.”
