US House Speaker Johnson Asserts War Against Iran Will Not Continue
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson expressed his views on the continuation of the war involving Iran during an interview with the American network ‘NBC News’ on Sunday. When asked if the Donald Trump administration would receive whatever budget it requested from Congress for the war, Johnson responded negatively, claiming, “The war will not continue. We are now working to bring a situation that has been a great success so far to a conclusion.”
These statements emerge as shipping volume in the Strait of Hormuz remains significantly below pre-war levels, and the trend of rising gasoline and oil prices has continued. A recent NBC News poll indicates that 69 percent of Americans are dissatisfied with the Trump administration’s management of the war. The average gasoline price in the United States has reached $4.31 per gallon, an increase of $1.33 since the war began. Johnson acknowledged the rise in fuel prices, stating, “We must ensure that gasoline prices are at a reasonable level. This is something the President of the United States works on every day.”
Last week, President Donald Trump claimed during a Republican gathering for midterm elections that the war would end “very soon after the elections.” Responding to a question about whether he was certain the war would conclude before the 2028 presidential elections, Johnson said, “Of course, we are definitely planning to achieve this.” He added, “Of course, I would like this war to end today, or certainly before the midterm elections. But there are only 50 days left until then, so we must be realistic about this.”
The Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives continued, stating, “This war is a complex situation.” Johnson further asserted, “We believe this issue will be resolved soon. The President has announced that this war will end immediately after the elections, and I certainly pray and hope it will be so.”
President Trump also claimed on Sunday during his trip to Ireland for engagements and golf matches that the war with Iran might conclude before or shortly after the midterm elections. These claims come at a time when Tehran has shown no inclination to reach an agreement under Washington’s imposed conditions. Nevertheless, the U.S. President maintains that Iran is very eager to reach an agreement, is constantly contacting them, and is requesting a deal.
