Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Discusses Islamabad Accord with IAEA Chief

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Pakistan‘s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, engaged in a phone conversation with Rafael Grossi, the Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), focusing on current regional developments and the crucial role of implementing the Islamabad Accord in mitigating tensions.

The Pakistani Foreign Ministry stated that both sides concurred that the implementation of the Islamabad Accord remains the most effective pathway for de-escalating regional tensions. Director-General Grossi affirmed the IAEA’s readiness to provide any necessary technical support for the execution of this agreement.

The accord, signed on June 17, was intended to pave the way for a 60-day period of peace negotiations between Iran and the United States. It also included provisions for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway that had become a major flashpoint during the war.

This agreement expired in mid-August following a ceasefire violation by the United States. Despite mediation efforts by countries such as Pakistan and Qatar to revive the negotiations, the accord’s implementation has remained stalled. Iran has maintained restrictions on passage through the Strait of Hormuz pending new commitments from the United States.

During the call, Dar also emphasized Pakistan’s “unwavering commitment to advancing the objectives and principles of the United Nations Charter and respecting international law and treaties.”
