Iraqi Cleric Urges Baghdad to Reject Anti-Iran Sanctions, Cites National Sovereignty

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Abu Alaa Al-Walai, Secretary-General of the Al-Nujaba Islamic Resistance Movement in Iraq, emphasized that it is unbecoming for Iraq to be part of the oppressive siege against Iran, a land of knowledge and jihad. He stated that Iraq, which adopts the slogan ‘Labbaik Ya Hussein’ as its guiding principle, must make its voice heard by adopting courageous stances that reject dominance.

Al-Walai also called on members of the Iraqi Parliament to adopt a decisive position obligating the government not to submit to American dictates, reject the blockade imposed on the Islamic Republic of Iran, and stand against these dictates, similar to Russia and China.

Previously, former Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi wrote on his personal page that closing Iraqi airports to Iranian flights is a grave mistake and a retreat from national sovereignty. He added that closing Iraqi airports to our neighbor, ally, and friend is a major error and a regression from national sovereignty, sacrificing our national interests and future. The former Iraqi Prime Minister also stated that reviewing the decision is better than insisting on a mistake.
