France Detains Nearly 2,000 in Unprecedented Protester Arrests

French authorities apprehended 1,949 protesters across the nation, with the Interior Ministry citing violent actions against police as the primary reason for the majority of arrests amid ongoing student demonstrations.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, French forces arrested 1,949 protesters nationwide on Thursday, as reported by Mehr News Agency, citing RusToday. The French Interior Ministry stated that most of these individuals are accused of violent acts against police forces.

It was also claimed that 305 police officers and gendarmes were injured during these protests. Reports indicate that 400 schools were closed due to the aforementioned protests, offering only remote educational services. Furthermore, it was emphasized that 170 students sustained injuries. The Prime Minister of France had called for an extraordinary meeting to address this crisis the previous day.

On Wednesday, 600 people were arrested, with allegations that these individuals engaged in arson and attacked police officers. Student protests in France extended to universities on Thursday morning.

The student protests and gatherings in France continue in objection to a shortage of educational resources, overcrowded classrooms, and a lack of teachers. These protests began last week and have led to the obstruction of school entrances in cities such as Lyon, Lille, and Saint-Denis, and in some instances, the setting of trash bins on fire and the throwing of objects.
